SK Copy Co

It was six years ago this week that our Director, Sanina Kaur, decided to leave the comfort of employment, the only thing she’d known for 18 years, and spread her freelance wings.

And she’s so glad she did!

I know it sounds like such a cliché, but I haven’t looked back since that day,” she says.

I genuinely thought I’d have to gradually ease myself into freelance life, as the work built up slowly, but surely. But from day one, I’ve been fortunate to be flat out busy with content marketing, public relations and digital marketing work!

Sanina has loved every minute of being at the helm of SK Copy Co, even when she had to navigate her way around the pandemic-shaped hole that impacted our client portfolio. While we may have been affected by COVID-19, just like many other businesses were, it wasn’t long before we’d bounced back and were at full capacity again, providing clients with results-driven content marketing, public relations and digital marketing services on time, every time.

Setting up SK Copy Co has been a massive learning curve for Sanina, as she’s steered the company along the path to freelance PR, copywriting and digital marketing success, working with more than 100 companies along the way. And while she may have started on her own, she now has a team of associates around her, all delivering exceptional results for our B2B and B2C clients.

As massive advocates for collaborating with other freelancers and supporting the freelance community at large, wherever possible, we’ve brainstormed all of the tips we’ve picked up over the last six years, and whittled them down into the following ultimate freelance tips list:

Our pick of the best top tips for freelancers (based on our six years’ experience)

TIP #1: Believe in yourself – if you don’t believe in your offering, nobody else will.

TIP #2: Know your worth – be clear about your pricing and the methodology behind it.

TIP #3: Add value – don’t just meet your briefs, always look for ways to exceed them.

TIP #4: Make friends with other freelancers – connect with them, get to know them and work collaboratively with them.

TIP #5: Remember there’s enough freelance work out there for everybody – there really is, so stop treating fellow freelancers like they’re enemies! They may even outsource work to you or recommend you to their contacts when they’re at full capacity or just generally!

TIP #6: Keep filling that sales funnel – you’ll be amazed at how your client portfolio can change from month-to-month. Always have your eye out for leads, so that you can keep replenishing your client list.

TIP #7: (Bonus tip!) Take care of yourself – if you can start half an hour later or take a longer lunch break, do it. Schedule your annual leave days and stick to them. You only get the chance to say ‘yes’ to new work once, but remember there’s only one you, and there’s only so much you can say ‘yes’ to before getting burnt out.

Last but not least, we just wanted to say a massive thank you to everybody who’s been a part of the SK Copy Co journey so far. All of our wonderful clients, friends, clients who have become friends, and colleagues; we wouldn’t be here without you today.
